Any site that uses the approach is capable of actively adapting the viewing environment for the user primarily with the help of advanced tools. Known also as RWD, the main objective of this approach is to produce websites, which offer browsers optimal viewing experience no matter what type of device they are using. With responsive design, there is minimal to no need to resize and pan while scrolling through Internet content using a variety of devices-from laptops and desktop computers to the latest smartphones.

Since then, Web designers who have invested time and resources to learn the ins and outs of this type of design have found plenty of opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills. Consequently, there were many opportunities to earn as well. While responding to the need of their clientele, specialists in responsive web design gained more experience in producing outputs that are progressive and compelling.

The other day I was grabbing a coffee from a local coffee shop here in town and I asked them if they had a website. Sure they did! What business owner today doesn't, right? So out of curiosity I quickly pulled up their site on my phone and was disappointed. Not because their website sucked or wasn't pleasing to the eye, it was a good site, just not on a mobile screen.

I've found that most business owners understand the fact that their business needs a website. Great! But the internet is always changing and now you not only need a website, you need a responsive web site.

Responsive Web Design (RWD) is a web design approach aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing experience-easy reading and navigation with a minimum of re-sizing, panning, and scrolling-across a wide range of devices. A responsive website responds to the screen size it is being viewed on and adapts to it accordingly.

MOBILE IS A PRIORITY

Responsive design & mobile first strategies should be a priority primarily because of the staggering statistics of mobile phone usage and the exponential rate in which it continues to grow. Millions of people check their phones more than 30 times a day, ending up on a wide variety of social networks and websites.

- 1 in every 5 people, approx. 1.4 billion people has a smart phone - 89% use their phone all throughout the day - 40% of internet use is through mobile devices like smart phones, tablets, and iPads

MOBILE IS THE FIRST IMPRESSION

Web design is a subject that broadly includes various disciplines and sill sets required for the design, production and maintenance of websites. These disciplines include authoring codes and proprietary software, interface design, web graphics, search engine optimization and user experience design. However, the term itself is generally used to describe the process and design relating to the client-side or front-end of a website. In the wider area of web development, web design sometimes overlaps with web engineering; it is not uncommon to see teams of individuals attending to various disciplines of the design process. It is also common to come across a single individual covering the various aspects of web design.

Web design is a fairly recent entrant in the technology segment although it finds links in other areas like graphic design. Melvin
