Perché discutere di Software Libero nel contesto dell’arte e della cultura della rete?
In questo documento, "software libero" non si riferisce a "freeware, shareware" o altro software autore distribuito gratuitamente-- come Microsoft Internet Explorer, QuickTime e Real Player -, ma è inteso in conformità con le definizioni della fondazione del Sw Libero (http://www.fsf.org) per cui il software è “'free' (libero) come la libera espressione del discorso e non 'free' (gratis) come 'free beer' (birra gratuita)". Tra gli esempi più conosciuti di Software il kernel Linux, gli strumenti di GNU e il web server Apache.
