Areas of Interest:

electro music, computer art, video-art, electro-acoustic music, multimedia art, audio-visual installations, interactive art, sound design, live electronics

Origin and History:

The Festival "Il corpo la luce il suono" was born with this name in 2009 but it begun with a collaboration started in 2006 between Prof. Alfonso Belfiore, representative of the department of music an new technologies of the conservatory of Florence and Esther Lamneck, director of the Department of Performing Arts of the New York University (NYU). This collaboration resulted in a series of workshops, multimedia concerts, exhibitions and productions during which the artists that studied at the MNT Department, composers from the USA and from all around the world couldn create and perform their works. The workshops directed by Professor Esther Lamneck gave to the musicians of the Conservatory of Florence the opportunity to engage in the creation of experimental contemporary music outside the ordinary courses. Since 2009, also thanks to the creation of the Sezione Produzione Multimediale Conservatorio L. Cherubini di Firenze (coordinated by Prof. Belfiore), the Festival became a consolidated event of the Conservatory and an important appointment in the artistic-cultural life of Florence. The festival’s editions take place both in the spring, in the period March/April, and in the autumn, in the period September/October/November, and usually they go on for one week. In addition, from 2009, the festival and the Sezione Produzione Multimediale Conservatorio L. Cherubini di Firenze have expanded their collaborations to other institutions and universities, such as the University of Chester, The Interdisciplinary Observatory of Creation and Research in Music/ University of Montréal- Canada, the University of Sheffield and to internationally renown artists, like the performer and choreographer Roberto Castello.
