Biografia
è nato a Fujian nel 1969.
vive e lavora a beijing e Hangzhou.
1992 si diplomato all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Zhejiang.
2003 insegna all'Accademia di Belle Arti della Cina
Poetica
Qiu Zhijie è un artista contemporanea ,critica e curatore.1996 curata da Qiu Zhijie e Wu Meichun a Hangzhou,furono le prime di sola videoarte.“Phenomenon/image”fu la prima grande esposizione di videoarte cinese che in quello stesso periodo cominciava ad attirare l’attenzione della comunita artistica internazionale.

- Work No.1:One Thousand Time Copy of Lantingxu,1990-95
Video .color/sound/34’38” “Anzitutto il testo del Lantingxu,uno dei testi classici redatti in calligrafia cinese, è stato scritto mile volte di seguito su un singolo-foglio di carta di riso.Le prime cinquanta copie sono state filmate durante il processo di scrittura.Mentre la prima copia dello scritto è ancora riconoscibile come composta da caratteri cinesi,in seguito le parole si sono trasformato in semplici tracce di inchiostro,piu simili a un dipinto astratto.Una volta realizzate 50 copie,le scritture successive sono state redatte su carta completamente nera,che rende impossibile distinguere qualsivoglia traccia di scrittura.La calligrafia diventa una sorta di pratica zen” (Qiu Zhijie)

“Una griglia in bianco e nero rappresenta la pareti a mosaico tipiche dei bagni pibblici ed è dipinta sui volti delle persone e sui muri,togliendo dimensionalita al viso umano.Quando le espressioni dei protagonisti sono calme,le linee sono piatte e immobili,quando le persone trasmettono un’emozione,le linee cambiano e si sente il suono dell’acqua della toilette.”(Qiu Zhijie)
In ques’opera,il pubblico viene sopraffatto dalle immagini in continuo cambianmento,piene di in certezza fisica,piuttusto che da un deliberato metodo di ripresa,In particolare quando il suono e le immagini sono allineati in modo casuale,la relazione logica fra griglia e mosaico deventa incredibilmente potente.
