Biografia:
Ricercatice e scrittrice su tutti gli ambiti del cyberspazio, cyborgs, transgender, dirige l'ACT dell'università del Texas. La sua pagina contiene diversi saggi e una fantasiosa presentazione delle sue attività di ricerca. E’ attualmente la direttrice del Laboratorio Multimedia Interattivo al dipartimento RTF. E’ la fondatrice e direttrice del gruppo per gli Studi dei Sistemi Virtuali, al Centro di Studi Culturali alla UC Santa Cruz. Era la responsabile ed organizzatrice della seconda conferenza internazionale sul Cyber spazio del 1991. Recentemente si è trasferita all’università del Texas dal dipartimento di Comunicazione e Sociologia dell’UC San Diego. Le sue precedenti ed attuali ricerche includono: produzione, teoria del cyborg, genere, studi culturali, teorie femministe, neurologia, sistemi sociali e tecnologie della comunicazione. Ha numerose pubblicazioni che includono: “ Will The Real Body Please Stand Up? : Boundary Stories About Virtual Cultures,‿ in Cyberspace: first Steps (MIT Press; Michael Benedikt, ed); e “The Drunken Terminal: Feminism, Virtual Worlds and the problem of the Diffracted SubJect,‿ in Lost Boundaries: A History of Media-Induced Experience (Norman Klein, ed). Sandy Stone ha una personalità carismatica e poliedrica, non è facile dare una definizione a ciò di cui si occupa.
Lei stessa dichiara: "Sono una surfista di discorsi. Assomiglio spesso ad una ricercatrice, qualche volta ad un'antropologa, altre volte ad una sociologa. Ogni tanto mi trasformo anche in una esperta di linguaggio macchina, oppure mi si può scambiare per un tecnico del suono. Ma tra tutte le mie attività, quella che preferisco è fare la surfista di discorsi."
