Success of Oprah Winfrey

If you are open with them, they will respect you more. You always should attempt honesty with your people, as it should influence them toward honesty as well.

Leaders must be definitely geared towards goals and the future. You must look ahead to see what's coming and plan accordingly. There may be surprises along the way; however, with practice you can hone this skill. Constantly reevaluate your goals and know where you are headed next.

Tenacity and commitment are important skills for great leadership. When it all goes wrong, you are going to be the one everyone turns to in order to see how to act. You must focus on successfully completing the goal despite the obstacles you face. If you stay motivated, so will the rest of your team.

Honesty is a very important virtue of becoming a great leader. You cannot be an effective leader if you cannot be trusted. While you hone your leadership abilities, make sure to put honesty at the forefront. When people trust you, they also respect you.

Tenacity is a key characteristic of a good leader. When everything goes wrong, the whole team will be looking to you for cues on how to react. You should focus on accomplishing the goal whatever obstacles stand in the way. Seeing how persistent you are is going to make the group more willing to work on the problems.

Try your best to be approachable. A lot of people think intimidation and fear-mongering are the best ways to show who is in charge. It isn't good, and you won't have the respect of others. Be kind, caring and compassionate instead.

Don't set unrealistic goals. This will only lead to failure. A great leader would never let this happen.

It is important to refrain from doing anything that could be construed as deceitful or devious. If you want to be trusted as a leader, it is essential that you live up to your promises. If you say that you're giving the best service possible, then you have to teach the employees that work for you what it takes to give people great service.

Remember that winning isn't everything. Statistics are easy to get lost in today, all thanks to technology. People who are excellent leaders do this to stay on track and see how far they need to go. If you step back for a second and start focusing on making a culture of people being successful at work, winning will happen on its own.

Your employees will form opinions about you because of your decisions. These decisions such as the hiring and firing of employees, who you assign tasks to and how you hand out promotions all go into others forming an opinion about you. Showing favoritism instead of rewarding your employees on their individual merits can undermine productivity and reduce corporate morale.

You should strive to make great decisions. The most effective leaders are skillful at making good decisions. Don't be afraid to go out on a limb. If you can make decisions quickly using available information, your own intuition and vision, then you will be a leader others want to follow. Never underestimate your ability to make decisions.
