Biografia:
Christa Sommerer e una artista di fama internazionale che opera nel campo della installazione interattiva computer. E una Professora presso l'Universita di Arte e Design a Linz Austria dove capo del Dipartimento per la Cultura Interfaccia presso l'Istituto per la media. Sommerer precedentemente detenuto posizione come IAMAS Professoressa presso l'Accademia Internazionale delle Arti e delle Scienze Media in Gifu, in Giappone e, come ricercatricie e direttoricie artistico presso l'ATR Integrazione dei media e delle comunicazioni Research Lab a Kyoto in Giappone. Essi e stata anche ricercatricie in visita presso il MIT a Cambridge CAVS USA, Beckmann Institute di Urbana Champaign, Illinois, Stati Uniti d'America e la NTT Intercommunication-Center di Tokyo.
Sommerer originariamente ha studiato biologia (botanica) presso l'Università di Vienna e di scultura e di arte moderna di istruzione presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Vienna (master).
Sommerer ha completato i gradi di dottorato dal CAiiA-STAR, University of Wales College of Art, Newport, Regno Unito e l'Università di Kobe in Giappone, rispettivamente.
Nel 1992 Sommerer e Mignonneau ci sono conoscuti presso l'Istituto per i Nuovi Media presso la Staedelschule di Francoforte dove sono unite e hanno iniziato la loro collaborazione nel settore delle installazioni interattive computer.
Mignonneaue e Sommerer di opere d'arte sono stati chiamati "fare epoca" (Toshiharu Itoh, NTT-ICC museo) per lo sviluppo di interfacce naturali e intuitivi e spesso per l'applicazione dei principi scientifici, come la vita artificiale, la complessità e generativi sistemi innovativi per la loro interfaccia disegni. Mignonneau e Sommerer hanno creato pionieristico computer installazioni interattive come "Interactive Plant Growing" (1992), "Anthroposcope" (1993), "A-coinvolgere" (1994), "Trasmissione delle piante" (1995), "Introduzione Act" (1995) , "MIC esplorazione spaziale" (1995), "GENMA" (1996), "La vita Spacies" (1997), "La vita Spacies II" (1999), "Haze Express" (1999), "VERBARIUM" (1999), " Industrial Evolution "(2000) e" PICO_SCAN "(1999/2000) e" Riding the Net "(2000)," The Living Room "(2001)," The Living Web "(2002)," Nano-Scape "(2002 ), "Mobile Sentimento" (2003) e "Eau de Jardin" (2004).
Queste opere sono state esposte in circa 150 mostre in tutto il mondo e sono permanentemente in musei e collezioni di media in tutto il mondo, compresi i mezzi di informazione del Museo ZKM di Karlsruhe, in Germania, la NTT-ICC Intercommunication Center a Tokyo, la Fondazione Cartier a Parigi, il Millennium Dome di Londra, il Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Giappone, la AEC Ars Electronica Center di Linz, in Austria, il piano di NTT-Net a Nagoya, Giappone, Shiroishi Multimedia Art Center di Shiroishi, il Giappone e la casa - DI SHISEIDO a Tokyo.
Sommerer e Mignonneau hanno vinto premi internazionali, come ad esempio il "Golden Nica" Premio Arts Electronica per Arte Interattiva 1994 (Linz, Austria), il "Premio Ovation" di Interactive Media Festival 1995 (Los Angeles, Stati Uniti d'America), il " Multi Media Award'95 "della Multimedia associazione in Giappone e la" World Technology Award "a Londra(2001).
Sommerer e Mignonneau hanno pubblicato numerosi articoli scientifici sulla vita artificiale, l'interattività e l'interfaccia di progettazione e ampiamente insegnato nelle università, nelle conferenze internazionali, e simposi.
Sommerer ha organizzato seminari e sessioni invitato a vari convegni internazionali, come il Seminario Dagstuhl (Germania, 2003), SCI2001 (Orlando, 2001), KES2001 (Osaka, 2001), AlifeVII (Portland, 2000), KES2000 (Brighton, 2000) e ART-Science-ATR (Kyoto, 1997). Sommerer ha anche organizzato diverse mostre di studenti (Ogaki Biennale, 2003 e la Mostra alla Sede IAMAS Ars Electronica 2004, Linz) e si serve in molte conferenze commissioni (Siggraph 2005, ACM 2004, NIME 2004, ICAT 2004 ecc) ed ha anche un'attività di membro della giuria in diversi concorsi internazionali (PI Impulse Programma 2005 della Associazione Austriaca Business, Arts Electronica Giuria 2005,l'UNESCO Digtital Arts Program, ecc VIPER 2002)
Sommerer internazionale è un co-editore per l'LEONARDO Journal, MIT Press e nel 1998, insieme a Laurent Mignonneau, ha pubblicato un libro sulla collaborazione di arte e scienza chiamato "Art & Science", pubblicato da Springer Verlag Vienna / New York.

==Poetica:== Christa Sommerer e Laurent e una Media artista, ma la sua produzione, non e supportata solo dal web, fa parte anche di quello che è oggi il sitema dell'arte tradizionale e che offre quindi grandi possibilità di visibilità. Con le sue installazioni e riuscita a trasportare quindi la scienza e l'interattività del web, nell'ottica di espressione artistica, da un contesto di media multimediale a contesti espositivi di grande prestigio in tutto il mondo.
