The Mediateca is a multimedia library with thousands of films and documentaries available to students, critics and aficionados. Toscana Film Commission offers free assistance for the cinematographic troupes that realize their productions in Tuscany. Area Tecnica carries out audio-visual productions; Area Formazione organizes cultural and educational initiatives to put youth and adults in contact with cinema and it conducts educational workshops about audio-visual language in marginal and socially disadvantaged contexts. In summary, the main activities of the MRT are:

  • Production of audio-visual and multimedia works
  • Organization of cultural events in the field of audio-visual art
  • Educational activities in the social field
  • Welcome desk for those who make cinema and videos in Tuscany (Toscana Film Commission)
  • Storage and promotion of paper, video and multimedia materials related to the world of cinema (Centro di Documentazione)

Activities for the social field
MRT is deeply committed to social activities andbelieves in the faculty of the image language to directly communicate with all the components of society: children, youths, adults, and people with disabilities or social needs.

Mediateca, in collaboration with the Associazione Libri Liberi and the theatre companies Pupi di Stac and Teatrosfera, organizes workshops of audio-visual education dedicated to children and teenagers.

Mediateca also conducts educational activities addressed to socially disadvantaged groups, in Tuscan prisons and in other marginal contexts.

  • Many courses and videos have been realized in Prisons and Psychiatric Hospitals.
  • Also the 19 May 2001 convention, held in Florence, can be included among the social activities:

Learning development in children with handicaps through multimedia supports. Research, market, achievements and perspectives.

  • In May 2007, at the Teatrino del Gallo, in the Limonaia of the Libri Liberi bookshop in Via San Gallo 25/r in Florence, they organized several meetings on social and cultural topics.
  • Finally, the Mediateca was a partner of the project "Volontariato e Media", concerning the Bando CESVOT Percorsi di Innovazione 2005, which consists in spot stories about voluntary work to be used for a movie script.

Being an Area of the FST, the MRT has an autonomous administration and, thanks to a regional contest for the appointment of funds for cinema production, it is independent for the selection of the applications, the support of the productions and the territorial assistance to the troupes that record their movies in Tuscany.
