Biografia
è nato a Fujian nel 1969.
vive e lavora a beijing e Hangzhou.
1992 si diplomato all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Zhejiang.
2003 insegna all'Accademia di Belle Arti della Cina

As an artist Qiu is known for his calligraphy, photography and video-installation works. He had showed his works all over the world, like: Inside Out:New Chinese Art , P.S.I Museum , New York . In 1996, Qiu Zhijie was the co-organizer the first video art exhibition PHENONMENA & IMAGE in the China Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou, he also edited two books which include almost all the important documents in the world wide video art history, so he became one of the most important propellent in the field of new medial art in China.
In 1999, Qiu curated a exhibition Post-sense Sensibility----Alien Bodies & Delusion in the basement of a resident building in Beijing ,. It showed the radical experimental works of the young generation artist which used the human flesh as the artistic meterial, bringing a great disputed in the art circle.From then on Qiu was regarded as the leader and prolocutor of the young generation artist.
In 2001, Qiu was the one of chief director of the important art magazine NEXTWAVE , then in 2002, he become the co-curator of the Long march project.

“Anzitutto il testo del Lantingxu,uno dei testi classici redatti in calligrafia cinese, è stato scritto mile volte di seguito su un singolo-foglio di carta di riso.Le prime cinquanta copie sono state filmate durante il processo di scrittura.Mentre la prima copia dello scritto è ancora riconoscibile come composta da caratteri cinesi,in seguito le parole si sono trasformato in semplici tracce di inchiostro,piu simili a un dipinto astratto.Una volta realizzate 50 copie,le scritture successive sono state redatte su carta completamente nera,che rende impossibile distinguere qualsivoglia traccia di scrittura.La calligrafia diventa una sorta di pratica zen” (Qiu Zhijie)

“Una griglia in bianco e nero rappresenta la pareti a mosaico tipiche dei bagni pibblici ed è dipinta sui volti delle persone e sui muri,togliendo dimensionalita al viso umano.Quando le espressioni dei protagonisti sono calme,le linee sono piatte e immobili,quando le persone trasmettono un’emozione,le linee cambiano e si sente il suono dell’acqua della toilette.”(Qiu Zhijie)
